Saginaw Co-Operative Farm Community History

In 1933 a group of workers from New York, Detroit, and Chicago purchased the fourteen square mile Prairie Farm in Alicia, Albee Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. This libertarian collectivist colony was known as the Sunrise Co-operative Farm Community. It was founded, by Joseph J. Cohen, who wrote a book about the community called “In Quest of Heaven” which is available in our Michigan room (R335.97 C66i)
