Dear Ila,
Always try to sound cheerful no matter what’s cooking. As a matter of fact this is a snap job the only difference being that is a matter of some 10,000 miles from the states. Course I admit the $70 I won last payday in a poker game undoubtedly boosted my morale.
Follows the run down, as best as I can do, on myself that you request.
Born in Hartford, Conn.; Nov. 4, 1930
Lived in Massachusetts last 15 years.
Live in Wenham, Mass. Now. Founded in 1639.
Graduated Swampscott High School, 1948. Not spectacular. Not to be less formal. After sneaking out of Swamp. High in 1948 I spent 2 years at the University of Maine studying mechanical engineering, a subject I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed. Found my earnest subjects to be mathematics, and got through one year of calculus before I was forced to leave because of financial difficulties. Expected to work a year and then go back but I was quickly mailed by this outfit, and now am enjoying a lovely tourists vacation here in Korea. Expect to go back to school when I get out but it’ll be awful had to pick up the threads after 5 years out.
Also took an interest in football while at college and was 1st string left half, pardon the bragging. Thoroughly enjoyed the knocks, but I’m afraid my dad wasn’t too keen on my wasting time playing. Regardless of that I have the world’s best parents plus a wonderful brother of 8 and a sister 23 who is going to be married before I get back. Wish I could be there, but I guess war is just one of those things.
I’m very sorry to hear that you were once [torn] made a fool of by some wise guy, but I’m also very glad that you told me this. I’m not trying to build myself up, but as I said I have the worlds best parents and have been very well taught to be honest and decent with young ladies. Must admit that it is not just a lesson to be taught, but also a truth and good judgment now is my guide. Only common decency and honestness lead to lasting friendships, something I pride myself on always following. I just hope you will accept me as a close friend and allow a warm friendship to follow.
Love Frank
P.S. Many thanks for the picture. It is cute and you really are a little doll.
Love again,
Frank
