Biographical / Historical

Feige’s Interiors began as the first furniture store in Michigan, opened in 1854 by Englehardt Feige. A master cabinetmaker, Englehardt built custom--made furniture right here in Saginaw with the help of his sons. In 1867, Englehardt’s four sons took over the family business. By this time the store and factory, named The Feige Brothers, were well known throughout both Michigan and the nation. They were even contracted to build furniture for the state capitol building. After more than 100 years in business, the store (now named Henry Feige & Son) was relocated in 1961 to East Genesee St. Although Feige’s no longer manufactured its own furniture, the new building had 7 floors to display the wide variety of quality merchandise that had become associated with the Feige name. It was here that the store first began offering interior decorating services to its customers. In 1979, the Historical Society of Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum honored Henry Feige & Son for 125 years of business. In 1983 the store moved once again, this time to its present location at 4946 Berl Drive in Saginaw Township. Eight years later owner Charles Pinkerton III (grandson of Henry Feige Jr.) renamed it Feige’s Interiors. In November 2004 Art Sample Furniture purchased Feige’s Interiors. The showroom was expanded to make space for a flooring department and clearance center.
